Biaxin

Generic name: Clarithromycin

What is Biaxin used for?
Biaxin is effective for treating bacterial infections. Biaxin belongs to the class of macrolide antibiotics. It's effect lies in preventing the growth of bacteria by destroying the proteins necessary for bacteria to develop.

When is Biaxin not prescribed?
You should not use Biaxin if you have any of medical conditions listed below:

Rifampin

Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), aldosterone blockers (eg, spironolactone), benzodiazepines (eg, alprazolam), buspirone, carbamazepine, cilostazol, cisapride, colchicine, corticosteroids (eg, hydrocortisone), cyclosporine, digoxin, disopyramide, eletriptan, ergot alkaloids (eg, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine), H1 antagonists (eg, terfenadine, astemizole), HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (eg, simvastatin), imatinib, macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus), macrolides and ketolides (eg, erythromycin, azithromycin), phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors (eg, sildenafil), rifampin, sumatriptan, theophyllines, or verapamil.

How is Biaxin used?
Your doctor will explain you how to take Biaxin.
Biaxin is taken regardless to food at the same time every day.
The improvement will happen after several weeks of the treatment, so do not stop taking the medicine, even if you feel better.
If you missed the dose, take the pill just when you reminded, if you missed the dose. But if it's time for taking the next dose, skip the missed pill and continue taking the medicine according to your regime. Never double the dose.
Special warnings about Biaxin.

Biaxin is not effective for treating the viral infections. It affects only bacteria.
